Compton Wood Flooring is a wood flooring contractor serving Compton, CA, with more than 20 years of experience sanding, repairing and installing hardwood floors. Our work is shaped by the houses here. Much of the city was built in the 1940s and 1950s, and those homes still carry their original oak and fir floors, their raised foundations and crawlspaces, and the patches and coverings of every owner since.

We work on those floors every week, alongside newer slab houses and additions that call for a different approach. Whatever the house, we treat the floor as part of a structure, not just a surface to be covered.

Our Approach

Worker sliding a carton of oak flooring out of a work van at a Compton job site.

We start below the surface. Before we price a new floor, we look at the subfloor and framing underneath, because a slope, a bounce or a soft spot is almost always a structural problem first. We measure moisture in the wood and in any concrete slab before a single board is ordered, and we write those readings down. When we find original hardwood under carpet, linoleum or paint, we assess it board by board rather than assuming it has to be replaced, and when an old floor furnace opening needs closing, we frame it and weave matching boards in rather than covering it with a square of plywood.

We also take the rules around older houses seriously. Nearly every house in Compton predates 1978, so we use lead-safe work practices by default. Old tile and black mastic are treated as a possible asbestos question before anything is sanded or scraped, and every finish we use is legal under the South Coast air district’s 275 g/L limit for wood coatings. When water damage is involved, we trace the source and document it with photos and moisture readings an insurance adjuster can use.

Paperwork is part of the job, too. Sellers get written scopes they can hand over when Compton’s presale inspection walks every room and closet. Landlords get itemized estimates and invoices they can use at move-out or before a housing-voucher inspection. And stairs are priced per tread and riser, so nobody has to guess what a staircase really costs.

What We Do

We refinish and restore wood floors, repair damaged boards and subfloors, fix water-damaged hardwood, install new solid and engineered hardwood, replace carpet with wood, and build and refinish hardwood stairs. If you have a floor question in Compton or a nearby city, request a free estimate and we will come look at the floor itself before recommending anything.
